Bandung, May 17th 2024 – The Public Lecture on "Legal Aspects in the Implementation of E-Business in Indonesia", at Maranatha Christian University
On Friday, May 17, 2024, the Business Faculty, Management Study Program of Maranatha Christian University held a public lecture themed "Legal Aspects in the Implementation of E-Business in Indonesia" on the 8th floor of the GAP Building. The event featured Mr. Christian Andersen, S.H., M.Kn., Dean of the Faculty of Law at Maranatha Christian University, as the main speaker. The participants were equipped with knowledge regarding legal principles and their relevance in the business world.
The event was opened by Dr. Jahja Hamdani Widjaja, M.M., Head of the S1 Management Study Program. In his opening remarks, Dr. Jahja emphasized that this guest lecture had a different focus compared to previous years. The theme aimed to study and understand the legal foundations in the business world, highlighting the importance of integration between the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Business.
In his presentation, Mr. Christian Andersen explained the crucial role of law in business. "Law is the oldest science that remains relevant to this day. E-business is a promising venture and an economic driver," he stated. Andersen emphasized that law always exists to protect businesses, including the necessity of business permits, the legality of business forms as investments, and the protection of assets and intellectual property for startups and creative MSMEs. Understanding the law is an inseparable foundation in managing business, especially in the rapidly growing context of e-business.
In addition to theoretical explanations, Mr. Andersen also provided practical tips and tricks related to copyrights, patents, trademarks, and industrial designs. He stressed that by studying the law, business risks could be more easily managed. "Understanding the law is a must, and comprehending its concepts is also important," he asserted. During this guest lecture, Andersen also discussed the legal requirements in establishing a business, which includes business permits and the legality of business forms, and highlighted the licensing process that can now be done online through the OSS system.
Mr. Christian Andersen also discussed the role of law in modern business. Many entrepreneurs start digital businesses and consider brand names as valuable assets. Losses in the form of brand name assets often have more significant impacts compared to physical and financial asset losses in the past. Digital-era entrepreneurs are advised to master basic legal knowledge to avoid being easily deceived by notaries and other legal parties in managing business permits. Managing permits is now easier and can be done online through the OSS system, a web-based application to assist in the process of submitting complaints and licensing.
The public lecture concluded with a Q&A session between the participants and the speaker. The participants, especially students, were enthusiastic in asking questions about plagiarism, asset name transfer systems, the impact of integration rights on business, and patent rights for trademarks. This session indicated the students' interest in understanding the legal perspective on business licensing. The event ran smoothly and provided new insights for the participants, particularly concerning the legal aspects of implementing e-business in Indonesia.
The public lecture was closed by Mr. Chandra Kuswoyo, S.E., M.T., the event's chief organizer. He expressed hope that the material presented could provide participants with insights into understanding the complexities of law in everyday life, especially in the context of modern business.
